Out of the mouths of Abby and PJ

We were driving back from Colorado Springs on Tuesday and Abby asked why we get home faster when she falls asleep. "It takes the same amount of time," I said. "It's just that you aren't aware of time when you're sleeping."

A minute later--and only about 10 minutes out of Colorado Springs--she says, "Are we almost home?"

"Well, no honey, we just left."

"Awww," she pouted, "but I had my eyes closed!"

Penny Jane developed a new 'script' that she says every.single.day when I put her down to sleep. As we're getting onto the bed: "Where's Daddy?" (even if she *just* saw him) and then "Where's Abby?" after I answer. Then, after she's nursed on one side, as we're switching sides she'll say, "Hap' birthday, Mom," give me a kiss, and say, "I kissed you!"

The birthday thing is pretty funny. She says it all the time now, to Dan and I. Ever day since her birthday. And she'll often break into the "Happy Birthday Song," too, though all she knows is the first two lines over and over and over. Sometimes she'll bring us some toy, say, "Close your eyes!" and then count, "One, two, one, surprise! Do you love it?"
