We're here!

It's hard to believe that it's finally happened--that we're actually here, in the house, on our way to becoming Coloradans. I keep waiting for it to hit me, but so far it just feels natural and perfect for our family. Despite the boxes everywhere and the constant "Where is such and such?!" as we slog through the unpacking, I feel like this has always been our home.

Which is not to say we don't miss everyone back in California. Abby asks almost every day if So-and-so can come play, if we can call people or meet up with our playgroup. After hearing me say for the umpteenth time that everyone would have to make that same three-day drive that we did just to come play, she looked at me and said, "All our friends are in California, aren't they?" My heart broke a little, but I promised we would make friends soon, and with two playdates already lined up for next week, I think we're on our way to doing that.

The drive--it was not as bad as it could have been.

Actually, it was pretty good. The girls were as good as you could expect, and the view, well....

We couldn't stop pointing and staring and snapping photos because there was one breathtaking scene after another. When those of you west of the Rockies drive out to visit us, be sure to take the northern route.

Castle Rock itself is a great little town. We haven't had much time to explore because we've been so busy trying to, say, find the towels and silverware (found the latter, but not the former), but we have a whole list of things we'd like to do once all the main stuff is unpacked. I did download a list of all the playgrounds in town for me to try with the girls, and the second one we went to has already become a favorite. It's only about 4 minutes from the house, and has lots of shade and great equipment, so I foresee many mornings spent there in the future.

More pics and updates to come--just wanted to get things kicked off since I know a few of you have asked how things are going. Please keep in touch, and we'll do the same!
